summer skincare

Ok so I know it's not technically summer yet, but if you live in DC... you know that as of last week the heat and humidity have arrived and are most likely here to stay. Ooof!

With temps in the upper 90's and a pretty substantial walk in my commute, I have to keep my makeup super minimal to avoid looking like a melty mess. These days I have been simply using  Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer under my eyes / to cover up any blemishes, a little Tata Harper Volumizing Lip and Cheek Tint (in Very Charming or Very Popular) on my cheeks and lips, and the RMS Beauty Living Luminizer on my cheekbones -- my new favorite for a super natural and subtle highlight!

With a very pared down makeup routine, I have had to really up my skincare game. After a lot of research and a bit of trial and error, I think I may have finally figured out what my problematic acne prone face needs (knock on wood?!) and I'm super excited to share with y'all!

In the evening I start by cleansing with Tata Harper's Purifying Cleanser. You massage it onto your face dry and it turns into this amazing oil that you then rinse off with cold water. Doesn't hurt that it smells incredible and is super gentle while still managing to get all the gunk from the day out of your pores. I then use the Biologique Recherche Lotion P50 "1970" toner, followed by Sunday Riley's Luna Sleeping Night Oil (trying to combat acne and the signs of aging, and I have found retinoids to be extremely helpful on both fronts!). Once the oil has absorbed (it goes on blue and then turns clear as it sinks in!) I moisturize usually with either Fresh's Lotus Youth Preserve Face Cream or their Rose Deep Hydration Face Cream.

In the morning I start with the same cleanser followed by Sunday Riley's Good Genes, this is a new addition to my routine but I've read great things and so far so good! Then I'll mix equal parts Dermalogica Solar Defense Booster (love that it's SPF 50 without the typical sunscreeny scent, it actually smells fantastic, a little like lavender) and their Oil Control Lotion, which is awesome for keeping the shine away on crazy hot days.
